artist: Mary Ford (Born 1946)
The artist was born in London but brought up in Cornwall from the age of six. Her family lived aboard a ketch moored at St Mawes – ‘an idyllic childhood.’
From 1970-76 Mary attended art schools in London: first the Byam Shaw School of Art and then the Royal Academy Schools where William Scott was her tutor.
Her paintings are representational with a simplification of form which emphasises their abstract qualities. Influences have been many including St Ives School painter Alfred Wallis, Ben Nicholson and John Wells. Mary Ford’s work is held in collections including Tate London, Slaughter & May Art Collection London, Truro Crown Court as well as many private collections in the UK and abroad
